Dedicated Lane Security Deposit
WHY SHIPPER'S REQUIRE A SECURITY DEPOSIT?
Shippers sometimes require a refundable security deposit when working with new MC carriers because new authorities do not yet have a proven operating history. In many industry cases, new carriers book a lane, confirm pickup, and then fail to show up at the pickup location. When this happens, the shipper becomes responsible for serious consequences, including missed pickups, production delays, customer penalties, and re-booking costs. To protect the freight and ensure commitment, shippers require a deposit strictly as a security measure, not as a payment or fee, and it is returned after successful load completion.
Carriers with an MC authority older than 2 years and a consistent performance record are considered established and professional. These carriers have already demonstrated reliability and lane discipline, so no deposit is required from them. This policy is a standard risk-management practice, applied fairly, and is intended only to protect the shipper and the shipment while ensuring smooth, professional execution of the load.
